Janine Pope Machine Drawn Applique

Machine Drawn Applique - People in Motion

10am - 4pm

Following on from Machine Applique People 1, this workshop will focus on how you can

1. Take basic drawn figures and layer them into groups.
2. Draw people in motion, walking, doing activities, and profiles.
3. Write confidently with your sewing machine to add text and to personalise.

With the drawings, you can then appliqué and free machine embroider to create a more detailed and advanced image. We will also look at scale and, if time permits, adding colour with paint and/or coloured pencils.

It is important that you have done the first workshop, as there won't be time to learn the basic drawn figure as this workshop will be quite intense.

Student requirements

  • Sewing machine, feed dogs down, and embroidery foot (Please make sure your sewing machine has been recently PAT tested).
  • Sewing kit
  • Inspirational images
  • Pencil and paper
  • Fabric scraps for appliqué
  • Neutral, larger fabrics to use as a background: calico, cottons, vintage linens, but close weave.
